Deer Join Us For Breakfast

The first week in November I came down with a nasty sinus infection and chest cold and was banished to the innkeepers quarters up on the third floor of the inn away from guests and from mom who was trying to stay healthy before she left on vacation on the 15th. It is a very rare thing for me not to welcome guests and interact with them during their stay but that first weekend I didn't go near a soul! Mom did everything, including prepare and serve breakfast.

One couple, Erin & Dennis Sprong, stayed with us 4 nights that first week. During breakfast one morning they watched with mom as a family of deer wandered into the back yard between mom's house next door and the inn and took photos of the doe and two fawn as they enjoyed nibbling on their own breakfast from one of the flower beds. At some point a buck joined the other three and Mom said they were in the yard a couple of hours before they disappeared into the secret garden at the back of the property.



It is not unusual for us to see deer and other wild life in the back yard but it never ceases to amaze me. I love that our guests sometimes get to witness these moments with us and we always get just as excited as they do. The astonishing beauty of God's creation is all around us, even right here in the middle of the city of Auburn, and I am grateful for each reminder of His care and that He delights in bringing us joy in simple every day things, like deer enjoying breakfast in our back yard and guests who were thoughtful to send along to us some of the photos that they took that morning in early November.
