Mother's Day is fast approaching, May 10th, and wouldn't she be surprised and delighted if you whisked her away to a romantic bed and breakfast (hint, hint, 10 Fitch is VERY romantic) where she could enjoy breakfast in bed? Ok, so breakfast at 10 Fitch is not actually served in bed, but it's even more relaxing and fun because the two of you can enjoy it together in the privacy of your suite while lounging in our comfy robes. And she will think that you are oh so thoughtful and romantic (which of course you are!) to plan such a perfect little Mother's Day getaway just for her. Mention the Mother's Day special when you book and receive our full breakfast delivered en-suite along with a potted plant she can take home, a 3 pack of our handmade olive oil soap and a box of Belgian chocolates all at no additional cost. If you book online simply type "Mothers Day special" in the "Special Needs" box.

Hurry though! We only have 3 suites!

To Turn Down or Not to Turn Down... that is the question

Since we bought 10 Fitch in September 2007 we have been doing a nightly turn down service for our guests if they are out between the hours of 6-8PM. We always leave a little treat on the pillow and have recently also been leaving on the bed a little "Tomorrow's Weather Forecast" card with an inspirational or romantic quote printed on the other side. If our guests are here celebrating something special we also try and do other special little things for them at turn down as well. I love doing this and think it lets our guests know that they are being thought of, we appreciate having them stay with us, and I hope that they feel just a little bit pampered and spoiled by the gesture.

For the most part everyone seems to truly enjoy this part of their stay with us. But last summer a REALLY bad review was posted for us on Trip Advisor and among a long list of complaints this couple said that they considered our turn down service "an over-the-top invasion of privacy and completely unnecessary."

We consider all constructive criticism a gift... truly! Our guests feedback, both good and not so good, is one way we measure the job that we are doing and it is invaluable in our efforts to continue improving their experience here at 10 Fitch. So, although we currently have 58 reviews posted on Trip Advisor and this particular one is the only bad one in the bunch I took the comments that were made very seriously. One of the things that it made me think a lot about was our nightly turn down.

I began worrying that many of our guests might feel the same way as this couple but just never said anything about it. We now let our guests know that we will be doing a turn down for them while they are out to dinner in the evening. This gives them the opportunity to let us know if they would rather not have turn down service during their stay. So far, since we've begun informing our guests of the turn down no one has ever refused it.

What's your opinion? Is turn down service something that you enjoy or would you rather not have it? I've published a poll so please let us know! You can view the poll results using the horizontal scroll bar to the left under the poll. Thanks for your input!

Sally moves next door

I'm so grateful for my mom Sally and all the help she gives me here running 10 Fitch. We have nicknamed her EB, short for Energizer Bunny, because she likes to be busy ALL the time! She does all the baking for the inn and about 75-80% of all the physical work around here from housekeeping to gardening. She is just amazing. Since selling her home and most of her possessions and moving here July 31 2007, she has had only a tiny little bedroom up on the third floor of the inn to call her own.

Several months ago we bought the property next door which is made up of a house with two apartments, a 3 car garage with a 2 bedroom apartment and a 2 bedroom cottage. The garage apartment and cottage apartment tenants were young couples who both bought homes and moved out shortly after we closed. So, we renovated the garage apartment for mom, new carpet throughout, new tile in the entry, bath & kitchen, new light fixtures and medicine cabinet in the bath. Mom completely repainted all the rooms and let me tell you the place looks amazing! Last night was her second night in her new place and today they are hooking up her cable for her. Tomorrow her new stackable washer & dryer come.
This morning when I came downstairs she was already here, of course, and I greeted her with "Good morning neighbor!" :)

This will give her some independence back and will enable her to have company! Her friend Joan is coming in a few weeks for a visit and now my sister and her family can come anytime too. It's all good :)
