Summer In Full Swing

Our trip to Boston & Ireland was fantastic but very jam packed with travel & activity so there wasn't really any down time, no opportunity to truly relax. And things have not slowed down since we got back either! While we had been away our friend Mary had taken care of the inn & our guests for us. We left for Boston on the 19th of June and returned from Ireland late at night on Sunday the 27th.

On Monday morning, with a full house for the next week, we discovered as we were doing the daily laundry, that our dryer was not drying!   Not only was it not drying the laundry we had just washed but it had been depositing a dull gray film on all of our beautiful white fluffy towels, spa robes and sheets while we were away! Everything was dingy & very dirty looking! A repairman for our Maytag Neptune laundry center couldn't get out to us until Wednesday so we had to load everything up from the linen closet and haul it over to the laundromat to rewash and dry.

Just 4 days after returning from our trip to Ireland we hosted a Spoiled Girls getaway for six fantastic ladies who filled 10 Fitch with chatter, laughter and all things girly.  Maria, Laura, Francesca, Claudia, Nadia & Lee were a delight to have with us and said that they had a great time while they were here.  The girls told us that they felt very pampered during their stay with us, loved all the rooms and they even re-named Equestrian Suite the "Pony Palace"!

Here they are getting ready to enjoy breakfast!  After breakfast a limo came and picked them up for their 6 hour chauffeured winery & sightseeing tour.  We prepared a picnic lunch for them to take along and when they returned to the inn they enjoyed a cookout on the 10 Fitch veranda & deck, a meal of chicken & sirloin kabobs, barbecue beans, pasta salad, iced tea & moms super fudgey brownies!

In the midst of all our busy-ness we also have entertained & enjoyed family.  My sister, her husband and their 3 kids came for three days.  My oldest granddaughter, Raythy, is here right now, has been here since last Sunday but leaves tomorrow for home, 3 hours away.  Our youngest granddaughter, Jenna, who lives here in Auburn has come for a visit twice since we've been back.  One day we went to Emerson Park so the kids could go swimming- Here they all are with mom on the merry go round. That's my niece Sam in the back, the from left to right, my niece Leanne, nephew David, granddaughter Raythy, and Jenna is on mom's lap.

We took the 4 oldest to Seabreeze amusement/water park the following day.  Left the inn after breakfast and the rooms were made up around 1 PM.  The drive to Rochester is about an hour and a half and we left the park around 8:30 PM.  We had a blast!

So, Summer is in full swing and so are we here at 10 Fitch!  Hope you are enjoying your summer and are getting to spend some time with those you love!

Our Trip to Boston & Killarney Ireland

Someday we are going to take a vacation that is relaxing and rejuvenating, a vacation that you do not need to take a vacation from!  The kind of vacation that people come here to 10 Fitch for... to unwind, rest, decompress & de-stress.  I don't know when "someday" is but in the mean time, we'll enjoy & be thankful for the trips that do take us away from work and our daily routine even if it is jam packed with travel & activities, travel & tours, travel & scheduled group dinners etc. because those are the kinds of vacations that we are blessed to go on each year through the company that my husband Rodney works for.

I know that I probably didn't sound too thankful as I started writing this but I truly am.  We have been to some wonderful places and have done some amazing things on these trips over the years including an Alaskan cruise and flying in a tiny sea plane over the glaciers to land in a remote area where we had a fresh caught salmon barbecue lunch at Taku Lodge and saw a black bear up close when he came into the camp and licked the grill clean where our salmon were just grilled, and Cancun Mexico where we had fish tacos for the first time and sat out on our balcony every night just listening to the surf and watching the waves lap the shore, and San Fransisco where we rode the trolley, toured Alcatraz and spent endless hours walking around down on Fisherman's Warf where the world famous "bush man" got me at least 3 times!  We've been to Hawaii, Montana, on a Disney Caribbean Cruise,  New York City and many other great places.  This year our trip was Boston & Ireland and we took my mom & my in-laws with us.

While in Boston we hooked up a tour of the Newport Rhode Island Mansions, which were the summer "cottages" of the rich and famous in the late 1800's early 1900's.  We toured two of them, the Breakers and the Marble House, both Vanderbilt homes.  Just incredible!  The architecture and craftsmanship of these amazing homes is unbelievable.  We were not allowed to take photos inside but I did get some of the exteriors.

The next day we went whale watching... saw a LOT of whales... a couple swam very close to the boat but I stunk at the photo taking that day.  Here's a few. Top one is my mother in-law, Barb (pink coat), my mom Sally, & my father in-law Pat poised with his camera ready to capture the whales on film.

The following day Rodney went golfing and mom, mom & I went shopping.  Pat rested :)  Then we flew to Ireland!  From the airport in Dublin we had a 5 hour bus ride to our destination, the Europe Hotel in Killarney, with a stop midway for breakfast.  Finally we arrived!  Here is a photo of our room and the view.

I had to wait until after 10PM to capture the above photo of the sunset our first night in Killarney! took the photo above from the balcony of our room.

Another shot from the balcony-

The day after our arrival we hopped on yet another bus to spend the day touring the Ring Of Kerry

Here are just a few photos of the spectacular countryside that I shot.

The following day.... yup, you guessed it,another tour!  This time, the Gap of Dunloe For this tour we first took a 7 mile Trap and pony ride through the Purple Mountains into the black valley where we had lunch and then set out in boats for an hour and a half trip across the Killarney lake to Ross Castle, where we hopped back on the bus which took us back to the hotel.
