10 Fitch Bed & Breakfast, New Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival, New Packages


Anyone who has stayed at our Finger Lakes bed & breakfast and has explored the area has tasted of it's bounty, from the majestic beauty of our lakes, gorges and waterfalls to the rolling hills and vineyards which produce award winning wines, to the culinary delights of our local restaurants; along with the quaint, charming towns and villages offering boutique, specialty, and antique shops, to the many historical sites, museums, and cultural events, the Finger Lakes has it all!  And now the Finger Lakes offers even more!

Exciting things are happening here in Auburn, NY!   Our little city is not only the birthplace of talking movies but is now the birthplace of the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival, produced by Merry-Go-Round Playhouse! This summer will be the premier season although a few pilot productions were offered at Merry-Go-Round Playhouse and Auburn Public Theatre last summer including the huge hit, "Cooking With The Calamari Sister".

Demolition has begun on the Kalet's Building on State Street which will be the location of a new performing arts center with 385 seat theater which is scheduled to open in 2013.  And as I write this a brand spanking new Hilton Garden Hotel with two restaurants on site is being built downtown and is expected to open this August to accommodate theatre goers.  I could tell you more but grabbed a video off youtube that gives a great introduction.  You'll find it at the bottom of this post.

So, in anticipation of the festival 10 Fitch has created some FLMTF packages that include tickets to the performances and a few other goodies.  As always, our packages are priced separate from our room rates. There are four new packages and each is available with stays of one or more nights.  We have partnered with H&J Hospitality to offer concession goodies for the two Merry-Go-Round Theatre Packages which include Finger lakes wine and tasty nibbles before the performance.  These packages along with the Auburn Public Theatre Package and The Pitch At Theatre Mack Package include 10 Fitch "Petite Sweets"- dessert for the two of you to enjoy back at the inn after the performance. If you have met my mom then you know she could qualify for that title :)  Not to worry, the package includes yummy, edible, dessert not just one of moms hugs!



And for a bit of fun we are developing some trivia questions about the shows and festival that guests will get to answer for a chance to win a 10 Fitch mug.

10 Fitch Parmesan Baked Eggs with Prosciutto & Asparagus Confetti


10 Fitch Parmesan Baked Eggs with Prosciutto & Asparagus Confetti



This recipe was a huge hit with our guests here at 10 Fitch bed & Breakfast and since all three couples requested the recipe I had to write it down while it was still fresh in my mind what I did to create it!

Below ingredient amounts are for an individual serving

Preheat oven to 375°F

·      Cooking spray
·      1 Slice of bread per serving – I used wonderful cheese bread that Wegmans’ Bakery makes but a good garlic bread or sour dough and multi-grain bread would be nice also.
·      Generous pat of butter (1/2 tablespoon)
·      2 slices good prosciutto
·      ¼ cup good fresh grated Parmesan cheese
·      2 tablespoons heavy cream
·      2 large eggs
·      2 stalks of asparagus
·      olive oil & a little fresh garlic or you can use garlic infused olive oil instead
·      fresh ground salt & pepper to taste
·      Smoky paprika

1.    Toast your bread & set aside
2.    Spray ramekins with cooking spray and then put a pat of butter into the bottom.
3.    Clean asparagus and diagonal slice ¼ inch thick. Heat olive oil and garlic in frying pan until hot then add the asparagus, season with salt & pepper, and saute until bright green and crisp tender, about 2-3 minutes. Set aside.
4.    Cut toast into quarters and line the sides of each ramekin with four of them.  I was using a square ramekin with sides that sloped in at the bottom so it was wider at the top. (see photo)
5.    Now fold and drape your prosciutto over the toast so it makes a cup in the bottom of the ramekin
6.    Add 2 tablespoons of cream the half of the Parmesan cheese
7.    Gently crack 2 eggs into the center taking care not to break the yolks
8.    Season with salt & pepper and a dusting of smoky paprika
9.    Sprinkle the asparagus confetti and the rest of the Parmesan cheese evenly over the top

Place ramekins in the oven and bake until whites are set and eggs are at desired doneness.  I cooked 7 of these and they took 20-25 minutes because the sides of my ramekins are so high – the deeper the ramekin the longer the whites of your eggs will take to set up.

Next time I make this I will add some chopped scallions and dry herbs.  Mushrooms & baby spinach would be very nice too.

I served this topped with a simple roasted red pepper sauce-

Roasted red pepper sauce:

You can roast fresh peppers if you like but truthfully I cheat and make this sauce from roasted red peppers that I buy in water-packed jars. I always have them on hand and no matter how hectic my morning is here at the inn I can whip this up in just a couple minutes. I use about a cup of drained peppers, squeezing most of the liquid out.  I put the peppers into a 2 cup measuring cup with about ¼  cup of olive oil and a little salt & pepper and use my hand blender to whip it up.  Easypeasy and delicious.

10 Fitch Bed & Breakfast March Madness Prize Giveaway Listing

The warmest March on record in the Finger Lakes may have had something to do with our typically slow month being much busier than usual.  A majority of the guests who stayed with us in March were from New York state but we also enjoyed having 2 couples each from Connecticut, Pennsylvania & Canada as well as guests who came from Georgia, Virginia, the United Kingdom & Ecuodor!

Our first ever "March Madness" drawing was a huge success, really fun, and generated a lot of excitement.  As each couple checked in they not only filled out a slip of paper with their name and phone number for each night of their stay to go into our big jar for the annual 2 night stay free drawing which we do every year on New Years Eve, but also got to stick their hand in another jar and pull out a slip of paper with a prize written on it.  Here is the list of winners and they prizes that they went home with.

  • 3 bars of 10 Fitch Soap went home with Peter & Noel, Lauren & Stewart, Jim & Tiffanie, Shelia & Stephanie, Varun & Nisha, Christopher & Michelle, David & Este Jani, & Tom & Jessica
  • $25 off the current stay went to Greg
  • Candle Jars were sent home with Lyndsy & Steve (who were also engaged at the inn), Warren & Pam & Joe & Lisa

  • Enchanted Evening Games went home with Jason & Khatuna as well as Denise & Tim
