10 Fitch Video Glimpse

10 Fitch Luxurious Romantic Inn - Video Glimpse

This short 1 minute video was done back in 2009 before the gazebo and back pond were put in at 10 Fitch but it does give a little taste of what you will find here at our luxurious, romantic, Finger Lakes bed & breakfast. 10 seconds of this video has been seen on Wheel Of Fortune at three different times when 10 Fitch was being featured as a prize package on the popular game show.

10 Fitch Auburn NY - Very Special Guests

I love sharing this big, old, beautiful house with people from all over the country and world.  We have met so many wonderful, interesting folks in the 5 1/2 years we have been here. Each and every guest that stays at 10 Fitch Luxurious Romantic Inn is special and appreciated and we so enjoy doing all we can to make their experience with us top notch. And every once and a while we are blessed to have guests stay with us who sort of turn the tables on us a little and make it a point to say or do things that make us feel appreciated and special as well.  Such is the case with Mike Derosa and his wife Maria, owners of Pino's Press Artisan Olive Oil company in Syracuse, who recently booked a last minute stay with us.

Being small business owners who do everything themselves, work hard and strive for excellence I could relate to them and the difficulties they have trying to get away, relax, rest and leave work behind. On top of their business they also daily deal with a variety of health issues which keep Mike in constant pain and prevent him from sleeping well at night.  So when Maria's birthday rolled around they decided it was time to get away. I'm so glad they found 10 Fitch!

Mike & Maria
Warm, friendly and very easy to talk to, over the course of the two days that they stayed here the couple and I engaged in a lot of lively conversation and shared much about our businesses and families.  My husband Rodney was out of town for several days on business, mom is up north visiting family until the end of the first week in April and Ryan was away at his friends for a few days so I was glad to have them here helping to fill the space and quiet of this big house. Mike's family is from Auburn and he is related to or knows many of the families who have owned or own businesses here in town.  Mike also shared much about his health issues, his faith in God and love for his wife. I then had opportunity to share with the two of them our journey through cancer 2 years ago when Rodney was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  He is fine now, thank the good Lord!

During that difficult time God drew us very close to Him and I told the Derosa's how Rodney came home from his first appointment with his oncologist, before his chemo treatments began, and said that he had seen a bald eagle on the way home from the doctors and that bald eagles were his favorite bird.  Taking the opportunity to try and encourage him I reminded him of some verses in Isaiah 40, "He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

The following week as we were driving to the cancer center where Rodney was to begin his chemo treatments that day I looked out my window and there sitting on the branch of a tree close to the side of the road was a huge bald eagle!  I excitedly exclaimed, "Look!  Another bald eagle!"  Rodney face lit up with a big smile when he saw it and we marveled that twice in a weeks time Rodney had seen a live bald eagle.

There were many other wonderful things that happened that reassured us of God's presence and love during that time, some of which I shared with Mike & Maria, and we talked about Mikes illnesses and agreed that every day we have on this earth with the ones we love is an incredible blessing.

Isaiah the Bald Eagle
After breakfast on the second day that they were here they went out to take the tour of the William Henry Seward House which is just down the street from 10 Fitch.  I can't begin to tell you how I felt when they came back that afternoon and said they had a surprise for me and handed me a little stuffed bald eagle!  I don't believe I have EVER seen a stuffed bald eagle before! Apparently Seward owned lot's of unusual pets and a bald eagle was one of them, before it had even become our national bird.  They said that when they saw it they just had to get it after hearing our story about the bald eagles! I was just overwhelmed with their thoughtfulness and kindness and the God-incidence of them going to Seward House and finding a bald eagle to bring back to me!  Mike is holding Isaiah (as I named him) in the picture above and here's a better shot of him.  I was really excited to text Rodney about our thoughtful guests and send him a photo of Isaiah!

In the morning I came down to begin preparing breakfast and found the following message on my wipe off board where I write out the breakfast menu in the dining room.

Maria actually looked at one of our Deneen Pottery mugs with the 10 Fitch logo and image and rendered this drawing with a wipe off marker!! Yes, she is very talented and does the artwork for all their olive oil labels for Pino's Press.

I was so touched by the message that I couldn't bear erasing it to put the menu up!  But before they checked out that morning I prepared orange chocolate chip waffles with an orange caramel cream sauce and bananas and served it with spinach and feta chicken sausage.

I feel like I have truly made new friends and look forward to doing business with Mike and Maria and experimenting with their flavored olive oils in recipes for breakfast to serve our other wonderful guests and also look forward to having them back again so they can meet the rest of the family.

Thank you Mike & Maria for being such amazing guests and being such a blessing to me during your stay at our Luxurious Romantic Finger Lakes bed & breakfast here in Auburn NY!

Auburn NY, 10 Fitch Bed & Breakfast - An Enchanting Evening Package

Package Spotlight: Make A Wish And Rekindle The Romance

We were getting a lot of one night stays where couples wanted to add a package but instead had to add individual items, which is great and allows you to really customize your experience at our romantic Finger lakes Bed and breakfast but it does take some thought and some time to go through the add on options and decide what you want and then add them to your reservation.

I realized that people coming in for just one night were missing out on the great thing about our packages, having a bundled group of desirable add ons, sometimes with a little savings thrown in, readily available and quick and easy to add to your stay without taking a lot of time or thought.

So, I set to work to create something that was very different from our already existing romance packages.  My mom had given my husband and I a wonderful, tasteful, romantic board game called "An Enchanting Evening" several years ago which we really enjoy playing.  ABC News called it "Love, Laughter and a box." The company that makes the game, and several other couples games, is called Time For Two. I decided to create my package around this game and include it in the package.

Make A Wish

The game starts out with each person writing down a "secret wish" that can be shared with their partner that evening then the couple takes turn rolling dice and reading/doing what the appropriate card says that they land on.  I decided to name the package "An Enchanting Evening - Make  A Wish & Rekindle The Romance" because that is what happens as you play this game!

But since the game is only part of the enchantment, the package also had to provide-
  1. quiet, private space and time to be alone and reconnect with one another. (Each of our beautiful and thoughtfully appointed suites offers such a space.)
  2. an inviting, relaxing, romantic atmosphere - soft lighting, music, comfy surroundings. (Each suite has a fireplace, comfy bed with the softest, silkiest, luxury bed linens, a bathroom with large European rain shower - two of the suites also have separate large tugs, iPod with romantic songs playlist and a docking station next to the bed, battery operated, realistic candles & silk rose petals which are used on the bed during the turn down service, comfortable seating in the living room of each suite.)
  3. food & beverage (the package includes chocolate covered strawberries, cheese fondue & sparkling juice and breakfast served in your suite the next morning.)

Let The Sparks Fly!

The rest would be up to the couple! And of course you get to take the game home with you when you check out so you can keep the spark going!

The Enchanting Evening package is priced at $149.99 and has become one of the most popular packages that we offer at 10 Fitch.  The most surprising thing to us is that couples staying for one night are not the only ones who order it!  It is however, wonderful for those who can stay just the one evening to have something so magical available to be enjoyed during their stay.  We have often had people call who want to give a gift to a couple that is staying with us here celebrating an anniversary or honeymoon and I usually suggest this package.  The game alone can also be added to any stay and makes a truly thoughtful and unique gift.

So, if you are thinking about getting away for a little romantic escape in the Finger Lakes consider coming to 10 Fitch and enjoying our Enchanting Evening Package.
