Mom
So, FINALLY I made it to Doug's to try one of the newest items on the menu, the lobster roll. Mom & I headed over to Doug's for lunch a couple of weeks ago and I could hardly wait for our order to come up.  After taking a few photos of our lunch I devoured my lobster roll!  More on the lobster roll later.

If you are coming to the Auburn, Finger Lakes area and you are looking for a great casual place to have lunch or dinner, we highly recommend you check out Doug’s Fish Fry. You won’t go away hungry for sure but you must save room for ice cream! Mom and I manage to do this by ordering just a fish sandwich without a bun (that's moms there in the photo).  No fries, no onion rings or coleslaw or anything else except a drink. Doug’s custard is the absolute best around and their Seasonal Sundaes are a real treat!  On this particular day we were just too full and skipped the sundae.

Tucked away on Jordon St., in the charming, nearby, lakeside village of Skaneateles, Doug’s has been serving up fresh seafood since 1982.  Five days a week their seafood is delivered over crushed ice, by truck, from the Boston Fish Pier.  No wonder it tastes so good!

The atmosphere at Doug’s is family friendly, causal and fun.  A huge fish tank with colorful fish swimming happily separates the dining area from where you place your order and then pick it up when your name is called. It’s laid back cafeteria style dining. At the far back of the dining section a hand painted mural of the nearby waterfront area at Clift Park graces the entire length of the wall and an electric train chugs along on tracks suspended overhead along the wall near the ceiling.  There is ample seating but because of it’s popularity in the summer time the line to order can be long and is often seen going down the sidewalk out in front of the restaurant. But the line does move pretty quickly. The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable.

Doug’s menu of course, features the freshest seafood but for those who aren’t fans other choices available are chicken, hot dogs, mac & cheese, & grilled Kielbasa. There are several homemade dipping sauces available to enjoy with your food including a really great tarter sauce.

The fish is a beautiful, mild, flaky, white, cod covered in a light batter and then deep-fried until crisp on the outside.  It is the best fried fish I have ever had.  Shrimp, scallops, salmon & little steamers are also available. On certain days of the week oysters & clams are also available.  Their onion rings are excellent but don’t order the fries if you prefer them crispy. Doug’s are not. Other items on the menu include seafood chowder, coleslaw and the new addition, Doug’s lobster role.
Are you drooling yet? I am!

Now, as promised, here are the details of my love afai.... er.. um... experience with the aforementioned lobster roll. I had never had a lobster roll before so I’m not quite sure how Doug's compares to others but this one was awesome and I would gladly eat it again and again and again, well, anytime!  When I looked at it I wasn't all that impressed.  I thought, "Ok, so it's lobster meat on a roll, whoopty doo." Then, completely skeptical, I took a great big bite and let me tell you, it put the whoopty back in my doo!  The roll was nice and soft and there was a lovely, buttery, crust on the inside where they had slathered lightly herbed butter on the bread and then grilled it. Nestled inside was just the right size pile of tender, sweet, freshly cooked lobster meat!  That’s it! There was no need for any other ingredients. The lobster roll is $15 so it is pricey for a sandwich but hey, it's LOBSTER right?

For drinks Doug’s offers Pepsi products, milkshakes, and a selection of beer and wine.

We love Doug's and hope that if you come stay with us at 10 Fitch here in Auburn, NY you will drive 10 minutes into Skaneateles village and check out Doug's for yourself.  Do me a favor, have a lobster roll for me will ya? :)
